What is Community Participation?

Community Participation supports also known as ‘Community Access’ are support provided to participants to access the community. This can be in the form of direct 1:1 support with a support worker or in a group with other participants and support staff. You can do things such as go on social outings, engage in activities, attend appointments and access the community with your support staff.

How to Access Community Participation Supports? 

If you’re a participant of the NDIS, you can access support with community participation through the Core Budget of your NDIS Plan. Since ‘Community Access’ is a core support you can access this flexibly and do not require this stated on your plan, however, you should consider discussing this with your support coordinator or LAC to plan for ongoing community participation support and have this stated on your NDIS Plan.

At Melbourne Disability Services we understand how important it is to look after your mental health, socialise and be an active member of your community. We support our participants to get out of the house, get some fresh air, converse with others and get up to some fun activities. It helps with feeling a sense of belonging and being a part of the wider community.

Melbourne Disability Services offers assistance to access and participate in the community. We do a range of things with our participants in the community such as provide companionship when out shopping or doing groceries, participate in fun activities like bowling or mini golf, we go on road trips and sightseeing, take clients out to have lunch or coffee but most importantly we make sure we have FUN, SOCIALISE & PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMUNITY.
